CurlFest 2017

Afros upon Afros. Curls on Curls on Curls. And all the good vibes…

That’s CurlFest 2017 in a nutshell.

From the moment I woke up on Saturday morning I was super excited to attend for the first time. Despite all of the missed trains in Jersey and getting lost in the subway in Manhattan, me and my girls made it to Prospect Park in one piece. We purchased early bird tickets so we skipped an extra long line, walked straight to the front and picked up our swag bags (which was full of some samples and a good number of full sized hair products).

It was Curl Heaven. Prospect Park was like a sea of Afros.

Although I really enjoyed myself, there were a few things that I want to keep in mind for my next CurlFest experience:

  1. Pack my own lunch: There weren’t that many food trucks, so the lines for food were EXTREMELY long.
  2. Get a lay of the land and find the restrooms before I need them: because there was no map provided with a layout of the festival.
  3. Empty out my camera roll before the festival: I was planning on using Instagram Stories and SnapChat throughout the day, but quickly realized that Prospect Park did not have internet service.
  4. Bring a blanket: I made sure to put an extra large scarf in my backpack before I left the house, but it was only big enough for me to sit on. Next time I’ll definitely bring a blanket that’s big enough for more people to share.

I give CurlFest 4 out of 5 stars. It was true Black Girl Magic!
