Meet Our December CurlFriend: Amanda Alcime

1. What’s your name and where are you from?

Hi I’m Amanda, close friends and family call me Meme and I’m from the Greater Hartford area of Connecticut.

2. How long have you been natural? Why did you decide to begin your natural hair journey? And did you Big Chop or Transition?

I’ve been completely natural for 11yrs, I transitioned for two and a half years because I just couldn’t let my length go!
I decided to go natural when a trusted hairstylist I went to decided to re-relax my whole head when I went in for a touch up one day. I remember sitting in her chair,  she had me faced away from the mirror as usual,  but I was wondering why the touch up was taking so long.  She turned me to the mirror just as she was getting me up to go wash it out.  I hardly had time to react to whatever glimpse I just saw of my entire head re-relaxed.
Despite having a relaxer, my hair was still very thick and all I got were roller sets and still had to be under the dryer for nearly 2.5hrs. That day my dry time took 1.5hrs. I guess I just took up too much of her time and she needed to find a way to shorten that time. Well a whole lot of her time freed up because after that day I never went back & that marked the last day of getting a relaxer and the first day of my journey to returning natural.
3. Who is your hair crush/hair inspiration?
I’d say HazelGoddess, her hair is so beautiful and healthy and all the styles she does are cute.
4. What is your go-to hair style?
Wash n go’s, I’m a busy mama, besides a bun that’s all I have time to do!
5. What is the one product that you cannot live without? Why?
A good leave in conditioner thats lightweight, has good slip, and makes my hair soft. Renpure Coconut Whipped Cream Leave-in does this for me.  I’ve tried many other leave ins but this one I just keep going back to.

6. What advice would you give to a Curlfriend who has just begun her natural hair journey?

Go into your journey with lots of inspiration but do not want “that girls” curls. Make a promise to yourself to love YOUR curls. All curls are different, unique, and most importantly beautiful. And have tons of patience! Learn about your hair along the way but enjoy it!

7. How can we connect with you?

I’m currently helping a friend who created 3 natural hair products to gain a little publicity to promote her products. Locally,  many women love her products and support her. I’ve been using them for almost a year now and they are very good. Things are almost in order, her page and website will but up and running soon so feel free to follow for an announcement on when that will launch!
Thank you for sharing Amanda!!!
