ItsReallyRelle Vogue Knitting Live Sweater

Of all the fiber festivals that I’ve attended, Vogue Knitting Live in New York City is by far my favorite. This three day festival is full of yarn and knitting/crocheting and all of my favorite fiber friends. I have been attending this festival since 2016 and each year I knit a sweater to wear at the Saturday Marketplace.

My 2020 Vogue Knitting Live sweater was a mashup of two very beautiful sweater patterns: the Tecumseh designed by Caitlin Hunter and the Vivarium designed by Amber Platzer Corcoran. The majority of the knitwork comes from the Tecumseh pattern: the shape, the yoke, as well as the arms and lower body. The two middle motifs are from charts in the Vivarium sweater pattern, which I found in the Spring 2019 issue of PomPom Magazine.

The yarn used for this sweater was as follows:

  • Main Color – La Bien Aimee Merino DK in colorway Patagonia,
  • Contrasting Color 1 – Farmer’s Daughter Fiber Juicy DK in colorway Ludlow’s Army, and
  • Contrasting Color 2 – Berroco Ultra Wool DK in colorway Butternut.

I used size US 4 and size US 6 circular needles.

Aside from the added motifs in the center of the sweater, the only other modification was the length of the sleeves. I shortened the sleeves because I prefer 3/4 length sleeves as opposed to full length sleeves.

Overall, I found that the pattern was very easy to knit. The details look intricate and very pretty, but executing the colorway was almost effortless due to the repetition involved. Each motif only required two colors, which made knitting them smoother than I initially thought. Although the body was completely stockinette, the yarn selected made that monotonous stretch of knitting the body a pleasure.

I really enjoyed knitting this sweater and tweaking it slightly to make it all my own. It is very warm and cozy, perfect for layering up during these cold winter months. I highly recommend both of the patterns (Tecumseh and Vivarium) as well as all of the yarn used to create this sweater.

You brave soul! Mixing two patterns, yikes. I would imagine the fact that they are two extremely well written patterns is a plus. I love the way your sweater has a gathered effect to the yoke. Beautiful job. I also chuckled at your face plant avatar. Be well. Regina
