Meet Our FiberFriend Nia

1. What is your name and where are you from?

My name is Nia Miles and I am from DC/PG County!

2. What is your craft? How long have you been crafting? And how did you learn?

I am a crocheter, knitter, and dyer. I first learned to crochet when I was about 9 years old. My grandma taught me during the summer, but I didn’t keep it up. In 2011, when I was pregnant with my second child, I met a woman on a pregnancy board who was knitting for her baby. She told me about Ravelry, and from there I took to YouTube to relearn crochet. A few years later, I taught myself to knit from watching videos on YouTube, of course. And then came the dye business, which really was born amidst a perfect storm of great change in my life. But that longer story can be found on my shop’s blog.

3. What is your favorite project?

Hmmm….I always love a crochet blanket, but I don’t know if I truly have a favorite project right now. I’ve been focusing on making things that are teaching me knew skills, like Tunisian crochet.

4. Who is your crafting inspiration?

My children inspire me the most. I’d say most of my personal yarn stash was acquired because I always thought I’d just make things for them. But I am also inspired by life…the emotions, the moments, all of it. What do they say? Life is beautiful. I make it a point to see the beauty everyday.

5. What advice would you give a crafter who has just begun her crafting journey?

Don’t limit yourself. If you see something that you want to try, just do it. I am where I am today, because I learned to stop limiting myself. When I started learning each craft, I chose projects that probably weren’t intended for beginners, but those projects and techniques helped me grow.

6. How can we connect with you?

You can find me on Instagram (primarily) on @thecrochetcove, Facebook – The Crochet Cove, YouTube (I dabbled in tutorials) – The Crochet Cove, and Shop for yarn on my website www.thecrochetcove.com. There’s also a blog on my website called “Musings and Joy” where I just write and reflect (another passion of mine).

Thank you for sharing Nia!!!
