1. What is your name and where are you from?
My name is Whitney Marie Anderson, I go by Whit or Whitney Marie. I was born and raised in San Diego, California and now I live in Oceanside, California.
2. What is your craft? How long have you been crafting? And how did you learn?
I don’t have a main or favorite craft because they each serve as different avenues for me to express myself. I began crafting at the age of 5 when I learned to crochet by watching my mom. Now it has been over 25 years and she’s learning things from me! I learned to knit when I was 13, also by watching my mom. I love to do hand embroidery using my drawings as inspiration. Lastly, I hand sculpt unique stitch markers made of polymer clay to make my knitting and crocheting even more exciting.
3. What is your favorite project?
My favorite project is my Mini Crochet Doll design. These dolls started off as a faster, smaller version of another doll I created. Once I made the miniversion, I ended up making two others and I look forward to making more (and I usually do not like to repeat projects)! There are so many possibilities for variations, and I just want to try them all!
4. Who is your crafting inspiration?
I get my crafting inspiration from my everyday life! My husband and kids are constantly giving me new ideas, both directly and indirectly. I also pull crafting inspiration from my other creative outlets. For example, my crochet dolls and my clay charms are inspired by some of my original character drawings.
5. What advice would you give a crafter who has just begun her crafting journey?
Don’t worry about perfection! When I began crafting, I was a child and perfection was not a word in my vocabulary. Trial and error are a part of the process. As I grew and learned new things, I made sure that I had fun and enjoyed the process with each and every project. I still keep this goal at the top of my list for the things that I make.
